The PGA TOUR Returns to Asheville: What to Know About the Biltmore Championship — And Where to Stay

The Blue Ridge Mountains are about to get a whole lot more exciting this fall.

For the first time in more than 80 years, professional golf is coming back to Asheville. The inaugural Biltmore Championship tees off September 17–20, 2026, as part of the PGA TOUR's FedExCup Fall — and we couldn't be more thrilled to welcome the world to our corner of the mountains.

A Historic Homecoming

Asheville has a deeper golf history than most people realize. The city hosted the Asheville Land of the Sky Open as far back as the 1920s, with the tournament running as an official PGA TOUR event from 1939 to 1942. The legendary Ben Hogan won the final three editions. Now, more than eight decades later, the PGA TOUR is making its return — and it's doing so in spectacular fashion.

The tournament will be played at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove, a stunning Jack Nicklaus-designed course in Arden, just minutes from Asheville Regional Airport and a short drive from downtown. Ranked among the top courses in North Carolina, the 7,167-yard layout winds through a valley bordering Pisgah National Forest and the Blue Ridge Parkway — with mountain laurel, rolling streams, and long mountain views as the backdrop. It's hard to imagine a more beautiful setting for world-class golf.

What to Expect

The Biltmore Championship will bring over 100 PGA TOUR players to compete for a $5 million purse, with live coverage broadcast on Golf Channel, PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+, and SiriusXM. Thousands of spectators are expected to attend, generating millions of dollars in direct spending for our area's businesses — a meaningful boost for the travel and hospitality community that makes this region so special.

The event is co-sponsored by Biltmore Estate and Explore Asheville as part of a four-year agreement, meaning this won't be a one-time occasion. Asheville will be in the national spotlight every fall through at least 2029.

More Than a Tournament — It's a Mountain Getaway

Here's the thing about a September trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains: the golf may be the reason you come, but it won't be the only thing you remember.

Fall is one of the most magical times to visit our region. The temperatures are perfect, the leaves are just beginning to turn, and the energy around town is electric. Between tournament rounds, you can explore the vibrant food scene in downtown Asheville, take a scenic drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway, tour the iconic Biltmore Estate, or discover a local craft brewery — there are over 30 in the area.

And when the day winds down, there's nothing quite like returning to a bed and breakfast that feels like it was made for this moment.

Stay Where the Experience Begins

Our member innkeepers at the Asheville Bed & Breakfast Association know how to turn a great trip into an unforgettable one. Skip the chain hotels and check into a place with character — a historic inn with a wraparound porch, a mountain cottage tucked along a creek, or a boutique property just steps from downtown galleries and restaurants.

You'll wake up to homemade breakfasts prepared by hosts who genuinely love this area and know it inside and out. Need a dinner recommendation? A secret waterfall hike? The best spot to watch the sunset? Your innkeeper has you covered.

September dates book quickly in the mountains, and with a PGA TOUR event drawing visitors from across the country, this fall will be no exception. Now is the time to start planning.
